“We are thrilled about this opportunity to transform Command & Conquer into a premier online experience,” said Jon Van Caneghem, VP/GM at EA. EA says the decision gives “gamers complete access to the cutting-edge visuals, sound and destruction of a full, AAA strategy game – for free.” The new platform, set to deliver new games in the long-running RTS franchise, will kick things off with what was going to be Generals 2. Generals 2 will now be released as the first “universe” of a new free-to-play “platform” simply titled Command & Conquer. Command & Conquer Generals 2 was originally announced back at the VGAs as a standalone retail title coming from BioWare Victory, but EA has decided to change things up a bit.
